Alki Beach Low Tide

I have always loved low tide. There is something really special about them. Last year I went to Edmonds which has much better marine animals. Alki is better for birds and these amazing pool environments. There was no bad photos, no bad views. It was truly an amazing experience and I highly recommend heading to Alki for low tide.

Big thank you to whomever puts together this chart at the Puget Sound Bivalves. They are a hero and I appreciate them every year. I always pick this up beginning of the year and make plans. Whether you want tasty clams, to take a hike/walk that is only accessible at ultra low tide, or just want to take kids to tidepools, this chart is amazing.

Parking at Alki is street and everyone scrambles for the front slots. I always park well down the path and enjoy the walk. The walk was the point. According to my old school pedometer, I did 13,124 steps which is about 5.5mi. I arrived around 11am and walked up to Cactus at Alki for lunch. It is my favorite restaurant, but there’s plenty of other options that are excellent. You will not lack for lunch, coffee, adult beverages, ice cream, or snacks.

The plan played out perfectly, as I got to the Seattle side of the park right at peak low tide (ballpark 1pm) and back to my truck around 2pm.

But the best thing about Alki at low tide is the Blue Heron and Osprey.
