Short Escape to Oregon
Newport, Oregon is one of my favorite places in the whole world. Yes, I know, if you haven’t been there you’re not sure why and this particular blog post probably won’t convince you. I should put together a future compilation of why it’s so special. This trip was a short two night stay to have a much needed mini-vacation from work, life, and responsibilities. The weather wasn’t optimal. I didn’t have a ton planned. I only wanted to get away.
My first day started with a moody stroll along Beverly Beach. I checked out the Yurts and made a note to learn how to reserve them (note, I still haven’t done that). Dinner was at Georgie’s Beachside. Seriously, over 5,400 Geoogle reviews cannot be wrong. I’m not sponsored. I make no money. Go eat there!
The next morning, I started by eating at my favorite breakfast place: The Coffee House. Gluten Free biscuits! After listening to some yapping sea lions begging for fish, I drove to Cape Perpetua Visitor Center which gladly takes my NorthWest Forest Pass. The day started with a quick stop by Thor’s Well.
I really do need to stop going on vacation with myself. Myself is always like
“oooh, let’s do 1200ft of gain and 7mi”
In case you would like to copy this, I started by dipping down to Thors Well, then cut up to the Oregon Coast Trail to connect with the Gwen Creek Trail which loops up to Cooks Ridge. The sun and the old growth Suislaw Forest was magical. I mostly had the trail to myself and I clearly did it the opposite direction than everyone else
And that’s about it. Ate a late lunch / early dinner and drove home.
